LA BANDA is a brand new show bought to you by Univision Communications Inc. and Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment.
With a new take on the singing competition show format, “La Banda” will search the US and Latin America to put together the ultimate Latino boyband. Representing Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Puerto Rico, contestants will compete for their place in “La Banda” and for a coveted recording contract with Sony Music Latin, label home to the most prolific Latin music artists, along with Syco Music, the recording label for the world’s biggest selling boyband – One Direction.
Ricky Martin and Simon Cowell are looking for the next latino boyband. La Banda will make that possible.
Simon Cowell said, “I’m delighted to be partnering with Univision on this new format. They are fantastically ambitious and most importantly for ‘La Banda’ they are totally focused on discovering and creating the next music superstars. There is a huge opportunity for this band and we are going to be giving the power via this show to the millions of teenage fans.”

Latest News: LA BANDA 2 Announced!
Even before its new music reality show La Banda starts to air in the fall, Univision has announced it will produce La Banda 2, a show that will “scour the U.S. in search for the ultimate Latin girl super group.”
The announcement was made during Univision’s Upfronts presentation in New York May 12. The network is in the midst of producing La Banda as a music-based, multi-media competition show developed by Simon Cowell’s SYCO Entertainment, Haim Saban’s Saban Brands and co-produced with FremantleMedia Latin America. “La Banda” is looking for the next Latin boy group and has secured Ricky Martin (who is also listed as a producer of the first season), Spanish star Alejandro Sanz and Italian star Laura Pausini as judges. The show, which already held auditions, will begin airing in September. Response to those auditions, sources say, was “overwhelming,” with one contestant driving from Utah to Los Angeles, and another auditioning six months after bypass surgery.
La Banda 2 will follow along the same lines, hosting auditions in multiple cities, but will center around the search for a Latin girl group. It will air in 2016 in the same Sunday night time slot where La Banda will live.
